As a professional linguist, I can tell you, a word means what we want it to mean. All that's required for successful communication is for the recipient of our words to understand the meaning intended when we use them. Agreement on the meaning we intend is not required. Only understanding is necessary. I happen to consider myself a successfully published author and a prolific writer although I've not yet had any of my work printed in hardcopy for commercial sale. I do not require anyone's agreement with the labels I choose, only their understanding of why I use them. My advice is to simply understanding what your critics are saying, thank them for their opinions and then continue on as before. I, for one, thank you for the work you've made available to me and others. You're a success in my book and your advice has been valuable - the opinions of others notwithstanding.
