The Little One was commissioned by one of her friends to draw pictures for a book about how to grow flowers. My first question was, of course, “How can you draw pictures for a book that hasn’t been written yet?”
That was the Little One’s question, too. But she drew the pictures, and explained each one to me. And I thought that made a wonderful little sequence all by itself.
So I scanned the pictures and am posting them here, with the Little One’s words.
Enjoy!

First…

You make the soil tender. Rrr…
(That’s really hard, and you might want to get a grownup to do that.)

Now, you have to dig some holes to put the seeds in.

Now you put the seeds in.

Cover up the holes with dirt.

Now you just wait.

… and wait…

… and keep waiting…

… and just wait a little more…

And there you have it!

This is me with my flower!

A close-up of my beautiful, new-grown flower.

Here are some pics of me with my plants.

Tim,
I just love this picture book! You should really make it into a video and post it on YouTube, but more than that, you really should publish it!!!!
Thanks, Paula. I thought of maybe publishing it, but I thought I’d wait to see if there was any response to this blog post first. 🙂

This is, truly, magnificent. A little musical background, proper voice-over – by the original artist, perhaps? – and I agree with Paula: YouTube!
Oops! Hit a button and it published before I was done. D’Oh! I wanted to add that it would make a swell book all on it’s own, of course.
Well, I’ve gotten the Little One to draw new, bigger versions of all the pictures. Not sure which are better. The new ones are certainly nicer, but the drawings on yellow, lined paper still have a certain quick-and-dirty, artistic quality to them. (Like modern pop vs. classic rock, or like listening to the CD vs. seeing the live performance.)
I’ll no doubt make a YouTube video, as soon as I’m done with NaNoWriMo.
That is absolutely adorable! 🙂
Thanks, Deidra! 🙂
