Yeah, I know. It’s actually Wednesday… The holiday on Monday pushed everything late, and I forgot to post this yesterday.
I’m reading Taxed to Death, by Debra Purdy Kong, as part of the “Pay It Forward 2010” group on Goodreads.
I’ve just started reading the book, so I haven’t really formed a complete opinion yet. It started slow, but it’s been slowly building up steam. I like stories that push hard at the very beginning, gets them rolling. However, I have gotten through the first two chapters without completely falling asleep, so at least it’s got some redeeming features.
This is the story is of Revenue Canada auditor Alex Bellamy, who discovers evidence of fraud during a field audit. But when someone murders the colleague who was helping him investigate, he turns to Jillian Scott, the accountant’s assistant, who has her own frightening reasons for refusing to cooperate. Soon, Jillian’s fears and Alex’s search for a killer embroil them in a bizarre and disturbing nightmare.
Today’s teaser, from p. 138:
“I thought he was an honest man.” He could almost feel doubt pricking his knees and shoulders, scratching the back of his neck.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just follow the directions at the “Teaser Tuesdays” post.

Is Pay It Forward for fiction only? Could I get in on this? And what is the average cost of a book? I wonder if anyone has their book on Kindle?
John, here’s the link: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/29280.Pay_It_Forward_2010
I know of no rule against non-fiction, although all of the participants have fiction or memoirs. Certainly, the book should be general-interest for it to qualify, and much non-fiction is targeted at a specific group. (That’s also why fiction is generally easier to sell than non-fiction, but maybe there’s a similar group on a specialized site that targets potential readers of your book.)
